Sep 19  WOW!!

What a day!  Thanks to everyone who made history at the 2nd annual running of CFAR’s 30K Gut Check.  Everything clicked, resulting in a great “running experience” for all concerned.  Thanks again for spending your Sat with us, and please pencil us in for next year, Sat Sep 15, 2012.

Thanks for taking the time to complete the on-line survey, your responses and comments are very helpful.  We read and re-read them to ensure we “get it” and “get it right”.

Updated results should be ready soon.

The best of luck in your fall events.

Sep 14  Relay Runners Seeking Teammates

OK, we’re not a dating service, but we’ll help where ever we can.

Are you a relay runner in search of a team?  We’ve had several inquiries from runners interested in running only the relay, and we’d like to link you together in time to form a team for Sat’s race.

Please forward your information to Contact@WaynesboroRunning.com and we’ll try to get everyone “together”.

Sat’s weather forecast has changed slightly, but it’s all good.  The Weather Channel is calling for “mostly cloudy, temp’s: low – 50, high – 64.  Still perfect for running a race!

Sep 14  A few logistical reminders to help Sat run smoothly (also see the “Race Morning” tab)

A.  Parking. Please park in the Rotary Parking lot. It’s a 2-minute walk to the Registration area and a 2-minute walk to the post race refreshment area. GPS: use Henicle’s Market, 42 West Second St., Waynesboro, PA, 17268.

B.  Race packet pick-up.  Packets can be picked up at the at the registration table from 6-7:45 AM.

C.  Assemble, Welcome, GO!  Runners will assemble behind the starting line in the southwest quadrant of Center Square at 7:45 AM. After a short welcome, blessing and signing of the National Anthem, runners will receive a safety brief. At 7:59:45 AM runners will hear “Runners, On Your Marks, Set, GO”!

D.  Safety, Safety, Safety. Except for the first mile, no other portion of the course will be closed to vehicle traffic. Runners will run against traffic unless otherwise directed. They will exercise extreme caution negotiating the course, particularly when approaching, traversing and exiting intersections. They will obey all traffic control volunteers as well as law enforcement officials. Remember to think not only for yourself, but for the motorist behind the wheel. Despite numerous newspaper articles and course signs, many motorists will be surprised to encounter you on Sat. morning.  Stay vigilant and stay safe.

E.  Volunteers.  It takes a small army of volunteers to put on the 30K Gut Check.  Please take the time to thank each of them for their service. A simple “thanks for being here” goes a long way.

F.  Finish Line.  After running through the Finish Line, runners will be greeted by volunteers with mylar blankets and finishers’ medals. PLEASE keep moving, and do not sit it down in or around the finish area. An EMT will be available for those requiring medical attention, and the medical table is located in the registration area. A volunteer will direct finishers down S Church St. to the rear of Susquehanna Bank and then onto the post race refreshment area.

G.  Post Race Smorgasbord.  Located on the opposite side of Rotary Parking lot you’ll find the Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Dept social hall where the post race refreshments will be served (look for the balloons). It’s about a five-minute walk from the finish area, and while passing through the Rotary Parking area, you’ll have an opportunity to stop at your vehicle to change out of your running shoes and into a dry shirt. Tables and chairs will be set-up inside and weather permitting, outside as well.

H.  Awards. The awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for 12:30 PM at the social hall.

I.  Results. In addition to posting race results throughout the morning, we’ll post the final results on our web site as soon as possible following the race.  You’ll also find them on the timer’s web site at www.SpectaSport.com.

J.  Showers.  ”Shower passes” for the Waynesboro Area YMCA are included in the race packets.  You’ll find a map on the back of the pass for those from out of town (@ 5 minute drive).  There’s no excuse to drive home stinky.

K.  Post-Race Survey.  Please look for the survey link and complete the post event survey before you check out your finishing time. Your feedback is very important to us!

Sep 13  SpectaSport comes through again!!

SpectaSport is overnighting the timing chips so they can be affixed to the race bibs Wed evening, eliminating the need to pick-up chips Sat morning!!  So, regardless of when you pick-up your race packet (early: Thurs or Fri evening, or Race morning: Sat), your timing chip will already be affixed to your race bib!!

SpectaSport advises bibs/chips to be worn high on the chest and away from headphone cords.  Please don’t attach your bib to your shorts or to the lower portion of your shirt.  And remember to secure all four corners of your bib (you’ll thank me after the race).

“Run2Live4Life”

Sep 12  RACE WEEK!!!

ALL runners need to pick-up their timing chips on Race Morning – regardless of whether they pick-up their race packet early (Thurs or Fri evening). See Sep 13 update above, SpectaSport comes through again!!

Chips will be available @ 7 AM Race Morning. See Sep 13 update above, SpectaSport comes through again!!

Lesson learned from last year; the timing chips have peal off tape to affix them to the back side of the race bib.  They are virtually unnoticeable, but they can (will) prompt the bib to fly up while running unless the bib is secured on at least 3 corners (4 preferred).

Save yourself an unnecessary headache and take an extra minute or two to ensure your bib is properly secured BEFORE the race starts.  And NO, the water tables will not be outfitted with extra safety pins.  Be certain to get what you need when you pick-up your timing chip race packet.

OK, I’m a little nervous announcing the following, particularly given the weather conditions of late, but the long range forecast for Race Day is…SUNNY, high-65, low-51.  Perfect race weather!!!

Lastly, for Gut Check veterans, the road Gods (Penn DOT) completed resurfacing Main St. last fall. The result is a sight to behold; a level and smooth running surface.  No ankle biters and toe stubbers like last year.

Sep 7  GU COMES THROUGH

An update to our Aug 26 comments regarding energy supplements;

GU generously donated their Vanilla Bean and Jet Black Raspberry original energy gels.

You’ll find them @ mile marker 12 where you’ll also find a water table and porta potty.

Thanks GU!  No, thank you!

OK, it’s been a long day…

Sep 2  The Race Committee’s Registration Fee Reprieve

The Race Committee suspended Late Registration and extended registration through Wed Sep 14 (individual runner: $50, relay runner: $30).

Now, there are simply no excuses for not registering.  BUT, it would be most appreciated if you would REGISTER NOW to ensure your event shirt is on-hand for race packet pick-up.

For those who registered during Late Registration (yesterday), we’ll gladly refund the fee difference.

Aug 31  Tick, tick, tick…

OK, no more soap box, finger waving lectures.  REGISTER NOW and save a few bucks!!

“Run2Live4Life”

Aug 30  Tick, tick, tick…

Less than 48-hours until race registration fees go up and you still haven’t registered?  OK, you’ve registered, but your running partner(s), relay team mate(s), or significant other(s) haven’t?  Time for tough love.

You can’t put it off any longer. There simply are no “tomorrows” left.  Well, maybe there’s one tomorrow left, and that would be tomorrow, Wed Aug 31.  But after tomorrow, race registration fees go up.

Why the big push to get fence sitters to their keyboards?  Two reasons.  First, we’re throwing a BIG party and you’re invited, we just need your, and your running partner(s), team mate(s), significant other(s) RSVP’s to ensure we have enough party favors (i.e. event shirts, food, drink etc.).  Second, the difference in race fees will easily cover the post-race refreshment tab.  So why pay the tab twice?

REGISTER NOW, and use the difference for the obligatory Starbucks, Dunkin’ Doughnuts or Sheetz stop on the way home.

Aug 26  Details, details, details…

2011 Official sports drink flavor:  Lemon-lime Gatorade (made from powder, traditional flavor, not G2)

Porta-Potties:  Adjacent to Race Hospitality Area and on-course @ miles 2, 6, 8.  Rest rooms available at Memorial Park @ mile 16.5.

Post-race fare:  Assorted fruit, drinks, bagels (carbs), and peanut butter (protein).

Marshaling:  Unlike last year, this year’s course will NOT include arrows painted on the macadam. Instead, signs (arrows) will be posted for all turns and mileage markers.  Not a big deal for most, but if you relied on those safety orange colored arrows to signal a turn last year, this year you’ll have to run with your head up to see the turn signs (arrows) or you’ll end up in MD (or worse).

Gels, blocks etc:  We do NOT supply energy supplements on the race course, and they will not be available for purchase on Race morning.  If you require them, please plan ahead and bring your own.  If you use them, please ensure the wrappers are discarded appropriately and not thrown on the ground (I only found 1 last year!).

Post race survey:  The race results will be posted as quickly as possible.  When you go to view the results, you’ll notice a link to “post race survey”.  Please take a few minutes to complete the survey before getting your results (I promise it will be shorter this year).  It may seem like a small matter, but it’s a BIG help to us!  Your feedback really helps to improve future races.

Race Registration Fees:  They’re going up Sept 1.  Don’t delay, register now to beat the price increase! Don’t forget to tell your running buddies.

Aug 25  A few calendar related items…

Only-6 days remain before registration fees go up, and only 24-days remain until the BIG DAY!!!  Not Christmas, and no, not your birthday, the BIG DAY is CFAR’s 2nd annual “30K Gut Check” set for 8 AM Sat Sept 17th. Please check back here daily for the latest updates.
